Fate/Extra Record Trailer Reveals 2025 Release, Bandai Namco Publishing
Directed by Nino Kazuya (Etrian Odyssey, Trauma Center, Dragon Quest Builders) the remake of Fate/Extra is coming to PlayStation, Switch, and Steam.

Type-Moon revealed a new trailer for Fate/Extra Record on August 4th, on the final day of FGO Fes 2024. The trailer announced a 2025 release on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC via Steam.
Moreover, the trailer also revealed that Bandai Namco is publishing the game. This is quite a surprise seeing that these last few years, Aniplex (Sony) has been publishing all Type-Moon anime and games. The Fate/stay night Heaven’s Feel anime movies. Tsukihime Remake game and its fighting game spinoff Melty Blood Type Lumina. Fate/stay night Remastered which is coming out worldwide digitally only on August 8 on Steam and Switch. This is all Aniplex.
Fate/Extra Record is a remake announced in 2020 during the celebrations for the original PSP game’s 10th anniversary. Fate/Extra is according to Nasu the first major Fate/stay night spinoff and the one that paved the way for the Fate franchise to spread into various genres and spinoffs such as FGO or the 2023-released Fate/Samurai Remnant.
Fate/Extra Record is a visual novel with 3D dungeon exploration and turn-based battles. Dungeons also have several gimmicks as seen in the trailer. The remake also has a brand-new battle system inspired by card game roguelites such as Slay The Spire. It's highly likely the battles will be much deeper than in the original PSP game, which was basically a Rock Paper Scissors thing.
It’s been four years since Fate/Extra Record was announced, so I was expecting a release date today instead of a simple “2025”. However, the game’s director Nino Kazuya has been regularly sharing news on the game over the years so I’m not worried about its development. (Plus Covid happened so you can easily shave two years off at least).
Nino Kazuya announced on Twitter that the Weekly Famitsu Magazine issue releasing August 8 will feature a new interview with him. The Type-Moon Ace Magazine issue releasing on August 28 will have another, huge interview (over twelve thousand characters in Japanese). We should learn much more about the remake via these interviews.
As a reminder, Nino Kazuya used to work at Atlus and most notably directed the first Trauma Center game and the first Etrian Odyssey game, both on Nintendo DS. He was also the director of 7th Dragon, Last Ranker, and Criminal Girls, all made by Image Epoch. He later joined Square Enix and directed Dragon Quest Builders1&2. In 2019, Nino left Square Enix to go back to more grassroots projects. He joined Type-Moon and created a new studio, Type-Moon Studio BB, to helm the remake of Fate/Extra, seeing he also directed the original PSP game.
