I Hate Posting on Social Media But It's Not Like I Look Down on Oomfs Doing So Or Ignore Their Posts
I regularly say that I really hate microblogging and social media, and how it's one of my weaknesses, as you need to Post when you're a games journalist looking for work. So I realized I had to make an article like this just in case, to avoid misunderstandings.
I try my best to avoid clicking on the Bluesky homepage to avoid seeing discourses. So whether I follow someone or not on social media actually doesn't matter much besides showing support. I never check my timeline.
Instead, I go to people's pages directly, maybe once every 7-8 days. A bit less/more frequently depending on how much the person tweets on Bluesky and how much time I have.
As I scroll there, I try to Retweet and/or Like anything nice, especially if they have a Ko-fi, are trying to make stuff, writing on a blog, selling handicraft, etc etc.
I still use Twitter via my news lists, though I stopped Liking and Retweeting anything except for Japanese tweets about Kelloggs and Cereal's crimes every now and then. But yeah for over ten years now I have lists for otaku news etc, and with Japanese oldtime Pretty Rhythm fans. Those are the lists I'm scrolling offscreen whenever you see me streaming Genshin story, Gakuen Idolmaster runs, Heaven Burns Red Arts Battle runs, etc.
Like I always repeat, sadly all anime/manga/games stuff especially niche things in Japanese pop culture, probably won't ever move from Twitter till it dies - Type Moon initially announced via Twitter that Bandai Namco isn't publishing Fate/Extra Record anymore and that the game got delayed again - so I still use Twitter via these news lists yeah.
On Bluesky, I only have a handful of short lists I check. Most notably a list with (mainly JP) artists, and a list with JP people sharing good political tweets like Haru Nemuri, Hiroe Rei, Akio Hoshi, etc. I don't mind "missing" stuff, so I only check them every now and then.
I also have a list with accounts retweeting job offers in writing, primarily gaming media. I jokingly titled it "Made in Abyss" seeing how hard it is to find a job. (I actually never read/watched Made in Abyss, probably wouldn't stand the body horror. I watched Kamone play through some of the 2020s game adaptation though. Was lotof fun listening to his analysis and comments. Sad there's no full VODs. If I had infinite time I would edit the notes I took (I have a habit of taking notes when listening to Japanese streams) into something publishable, watch all the hours I missed and publish summaries of stuff he said.)
Maybe I should try making Bluesky lists of online friends and mutuals and acquaintances at some point instead of checking their homepages individually. The main issue though is how Bluesky has no privacy systems and everything is public.
