K Pop Demon Hunters feel kinda similar to Prism Shows in Pretty Rhythm/ King of Prism and CG performances in Pretty Series in general

I watched this movie. It was ok. I don't really have anything in particular to say. Not the kind of movie I'd watch with or talk about with my Japanese muslim otaku hypothetical future wife as I don't think she'd have anything to say about it either. Besides some religion stuff we can't talk about in public. But yeah we're not the target audience.

I know a little bit about K pop but it's knowledge from late 2000s when it started getting popular globally and in Japan especially. So in a way most of what I learned is through JP pop culture. Girls Generation becoming 少女時代 in Japan, 2PM etc. In France too in the early 2010s K Pop started being more and more popular than J Pop. I also used to watch the channel Arirang a lot for its outdoor shows like Leisure All Out. But I don't know any of the recent K Pop things. And I only watch like one K drama every 3-4 years. I really like Kill Me Heal Me from the late 2010s.

I really liked the 2D illustrations in the credits. Especially the one with Red in a sleeping bag. Would have been cooler if the whole movie looked like this.

Pretty Series is relatively popular in Korea so I wonder if some of the staff of that movie like it. There are a few scenes and ideas in the movie that feel like Prism Shows and the CG lives in PriPara, Kiratto PriChan, Waccha PriMagi, Himitsu no AiPri. Especially the Reality Marble aspect with how they can make stuff appear during their shows. Insha Allah I'm gonna get a well paid, unexploitative position one day to talk about this. Though I'd have to speak Korean to do actual research or ask someone who do.

But yeah it's a simple movie, easy to get and appreciate and digest. Nothing that can rock people's feelings too. During the double autograph scene with people shipping the boys and the girls, there obviously wasn't a single BL or GL pairing, while we all know there would be a ton IRL. People who liked the movie a lot too will definitely gravitate more towards MC x Red fanfics or MC x Tiger (since Tiger was the best character in the movie) than MC x Heroine. (I'm talking about the Soda boy dude. The word is always feminine, "Heroine", but a Heroine character isn't always female or even necessarily human. You should watch more 70s 80s anime and play Super Robot Wars games to learn more.)

I guess the one thing that disappointed me was that despite hearing how the movie is a really cool and accurate depiction of K Pop, there wasn't a single blackface.
