That Scene When Souther Asks Ken Why He Still Watches Corpo VTubers Was So Cool
Don't you remember? It went like:
Souther: "Kenshiro, why do you still watch corpo VTubers? Why do you choose to carry the burden of graduations? The pains of never ever seeing your oshi again, pretending they never existed? Betrayed again and again by SpiceandWolf Live and RainbowCook. As an indie VTuber, you know better than anyone else that not a single company in the world can be trusted. Growing to love corpo VTubers will ultimately only bring you sadness. Why don't you throw away these feelings?!"
And then Kenshiro goes: "True, corpo VTubers are 99% white or white brained, and some of them have even said the n word. But before the graduations, before the termination of contracts, beyond the capitalism, you too should remember, the warmth of their stream. The genuineness of the moments you've all spent together on Gunpare, on Sakura Taisen 3, on Tokimemo..."
And then there's a flashback scene with Souther remembering his master, a VTuber streaming RomanCHAD SaGa Africa 3 inspired Freem RPGs on Niconico in the early 2010s with a zettai ryouiki sukumizu nekomimi meganekko giantess MMD avatar and a voiceroid voice, before the term "VTuber" was coined.
Personally I'm more like Souther and it's one of the reasons why I barely watch corpo VTubers. But I definitely won't blame those who do and Kenshiro explains why so well. Like, if it comes to SpiceandWolf Live and RainbowCook, I like Kaela because she likes Captain Tsubasa, she's funny and designed by Suzupin (insha Allah I'm gonna write about Yozakura Quartet ending soon), I like Tsukino Mito because her videos are really funny, and I like Ibrahim because he's called Ibrahim. And that's it I guess? And among the hundreds of streamers I listen to, there are a few indie VTubers I really like such as MagiStarlight and Shiori Pon.
Anyway, this was such a powerful scene, and one of the many reasons why Hokuto no Ken is such a masterpiece. People who never actually checked out the series believe it's "the most violent anime ever" whatever, without realizing it's a story about friendship, love and compassion.
You should watch the first Hokuto no Ken TV anime adaptation and read the original manga if you never did. Why wait for the 2026 remake when you could just check it out now?
