Oh is that the "this was supposed to be based on Tokyo but not anymore due to japan electing RIDGE RACIST NUMBAH WAN and messing up diplomatic relations" Galaxy Express Three Nine update I kept hearing about
You can still easily tell this is inspired by (pop-culture's typical representations of) Tokyo so it's not like they changed it that much in my opinion. I guess all the stuff and places had japanese names and they changed them.
This still looks like a fake Shibuya with a fake Ichimarukyu, a fake Akiba with its Kanda river Jet Girls, etc. I wonder how much has changed.
(I'm still so sad how Kandagawa Jet Girls turned out. Huge waste of incredible cast and chara designs to make the boringest racing game ever. I remember how when it released, the usual overly vocal bigots who don't know anything about otaku culture kept complaining "it's because of Sony censorship!!!" as if the gameplay wasn't dog anyway. The anime too was disappointing and its racing scenes incredibly boring. It's like every single person who worked on that franchise never watched or played a racing anime thing like Initial D or something. I don't wanna blame devs and animators but it just genuinely feel that way. The whole franchise, game and anime, could have been a masterpiece. Such a shame. I'm gonna put all the blame on Kadoriver. I'll actually need to check all the story modes in the game one day to learn more about the characters. Also I'm still salty they recycled the concept into a sociage with way more boring, sociage-like chara design, and that got popular. Even assuming that game is good I just can't get hype about it.)
(Writing all this I felt like I already wrote the exact same thing in an article 2 3 years ago. I do end up repeating myself fairly often. Hopefully one day I won't have to keep repeating that there's a huge lack of Black people in games media and game development.)
Also as much as I like Genshin and would defend it in certain arguments where I think it's hated for superficial reasons when they are better valid reasons to hate, one thing I can't stand is yoyoverse trailers. At least the Genshin ones aren't that bad. But this one uuuurgh I could only watch bits. Way too much stuff, feels like it's made to give you ADHD. It's the same issue as most sociage OPs. I made an article about this already.

I guess that's what most people like these days or else they wouldn't make trailers like that.
Some Genshin cutscenes can feel like that too especially during Fontaine arc, that Clorinde intro scene in the city plaza for example was so bad. Luckily starting Nata they scaled it down. And none of the Crossbell cutscenes gave me this feeling so far IIRC (I'm still at Act 5 / Luna 3 main story). I assume the cutscene teams changed, but since no one is ever credited in the cursed sociage industry I can't tell for sure.
