Super Robot Wars August 19 2025 Live Stream Summary

Asalam aleikoum how's it going. So Bamco held another SRW stream on August 19. The stream was MC'ed by the comedy duo Gattsukitaika, who have been the main MCs for around ten years now. It also featured SRW Y producer Touma Kouta and SRW DD producer Matsumoto.Watched it live and it was a lot of fun. Though I can't help but think this new format for the live streams isn't as entertaining as the old format. These last 10 years or so, the streams were always held in the same lobby at Bandai Namco HQ and always featured ex producer Terada Takanobu and seiyuu Akabane Kenji together with Gattsukitaika.

SRW DD

After the usual intros, the stream started with a segment focusing on SRW DD, announcing the game's 6th anniversary celebrations.

Most notably, they announced the release of Main Story Chapter 4 Part 3. Two new series will also appear in DD: Gundam Seed Freedom and Daimos.

According to SRW DD's producer Matsumoto, this is the first time since SRW A that Combattler V, Voltes V, and Daimos are in the same game. (Matsumoto replaced Oochi Hiroaki as producer of SRW DD in April. Oochi is still working at Bandai Namco. They talked about all this in the April stream. I don't have a summary out yet sorry.)

This is also the first time the Gundam Seed Freedom movie appears in SRW. (As a reminder, they started planning another SRW game right after SRW 30 released in October 2021, but they had to focus on switching engines first. That's why the game took so long to release, and future games won't take as much time. Producer Touma Kouta explained all this in the April live stream. This explains why SRW Y doesn't have any recent series from these last 2-3 years.)

For now the Gundam Seed Freedom stuff consists of Athrun's Z'gok, and Meyrin as Support. You can get Athrun&Z'gok for free by clearing time-limited missions. They also specified that the Z'gok can't use Seed Destiny Infinite Justice's parts already in the game even if it's technically the same robot.

The next chapter of Super Robot Wars 3 Another will be released in late September. (This is a remake of SRW 3 's story, released inside SRW DD since September 2024. There are a few changes though, hence the name "another").

Next, they announced with a trailer that Yuusha Seisen (The Saint of Braves) Baan Gaan is joining SRW DD as a time-limited addition in late September.

The Saint of Braves Baan Gaan is a bit tricky to explain because it's a TV series from the 90s, but Takara and Sunrise never actually produced it. However, they still made it appear in the Braves series' video games. Most notably in the PS1 tactical RPG called New Generation Robot Chronicles Brave Saga. That game also had an opening animation for Baan Gaan, made by the Brave series staff at Sunrise, with an OP theme called Mezase Yuuki. This is the song they used in the trailer and the trailer is similar to the opening too.

I found a let's play on YouTube of Brave Saga, with the opening for Baan Gaan at 05:26. It looks super cool.

(I have to admit that I don't know much about the Yuusha/Brave series and didn't know any of this myself. They explained it all on stream and I'm just translating and repeating what they said.)

Japanese fans of the Brave series were really really hype in the chat, some of them said they were crying. (Note that if you watched my restream, I initially mixed it up with Brave Universe Sworgrader, the new Yuusha series manga from 2023. I forgot Sworgrader was already added to DD).

The Saint of Braves Baan Gaan will have a short scenario in DD, 3 Stages in total, written by Hayasaka Norihiro, who shared his enthusiasm through his Hayabaan robot persona.

Next, they announced that SRW Y male protagonist Cross Tsukinowa will be added to SRW DD in late September.

The new support characters for the SRW DD 2025 swimsuit gacha banners will be Mikoto from Gaogaigar and SRW Y female protagonist Forte Tsukinowa.

Forte's swimsuit artwork was drawn by Watanabe Wataru, the character designer of SRW Y. It's pretty funny she got a swimsuit costume revealed before her game is even out. I assume she'll get added as fully playable in a later SRW Y collab.

Back on the June 19 stream they announced that I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire! will be added as time-limited addition in an event. On this stream they reported that they're still working on the event and they'll be adding Liam Sera Banfield's Avid in the game. They're currently working on its 3D model and animations and should be able to show a trailer soon.

The rest of the SRW DD segment focused on UI changes, a new mode, etc. Nothing particularly noteworthy if you aren't playing the game yourself. (I still gotta try it out myself, I played through the tutorial a few months ago then didn't have the time to continue.)

SRW Y segment

Producer Touma Kouta started the segment by apologizing, explaining that the SRW Y demo doesn't reflect the game's Expert difficulty properly.

He explained that due to balance concerns, in Chapter 01 (4 stages, all of the demo), even if you picked Expert difficulty, the game will have the same features as Hard difficulty: Enemy units don't have upgrades, you get the same amount of EXP as in hard, and units can still be targeted by other allies' Spirits during the Enemy Phase. (I played the demo on Expert myself and was wondering how come the game was so easy, this explains it.). Bandai Namco later updated the game's Q&A on its official site to explain the issue as well.

After this short explanation, they revealed the DLC trailer for Super Robot Wars Y.

SRW Y DLC trailer

DLC 1 Contract from the Darkness

-The Big O
-Fuuto Pi The Portrait of Kamen Rider Skull

DLC 2 Awakening of a Soul

After the trailer ended, TomaP shared several comments on each of these series:

TomaP noted that most fans remember Braiger in Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden. However, the series also appeared in SRW Neo in 2009, and it's the first time since then that Braiger is in a console SRW game. He added that Braiger is a powerful unit since it has four pilots: Kid, Omachi, Isaac, Bowie, and how they have unique Pilot Skills with special effects, such as increasing Credits earned when defeating enemies.

Anyway I'm really excited for Braiger. You should watch the anime if you never did, it's a really awesome mecha and sci fi series. I watched it myself in 2012 or so. Braiger is famously influential too, as it's one of the series that inspired Obari into becoming an animator, as explained by Kraker2k in 2012.

As a side note, Kid's original seiyuu Shiozawa Kaneto actually passed away in 2000. So ever since Braiger's first appearance in SRW Alpha Gaiden, Kid was always voiced by Yamazaki Takumi. Yamazaki took over most of Shiozawa's roles. Yamazaki also did among others characters George in G Gundam, Roybea in Gundam X, Niijima in Shijou Saikyou no Deshi Kenichi (really fun dude in a fun series), or Kayneth in Fate/Zero (obligatory mention that I strongly dislike Fate/Zero and think it's the worst thing Urobuchi wrote and I'll never understand people who go "watch FZ it's one of the best anime of all time and a great intro to Nasuverse".)

Tons of seiyuu of characters appearing in SRW sadly already passed away. Sometimes the games keep using prerecorded voice clips. In the SRW live stream on August 23 2024, which was a few days after Tanaka Atsuko passed away, Terada said future games will keep using her voice for Viletta in the same way they still use Mizutani Yuuko's voice for Excellen. A few years before that, he said that they would only change Excellen's voice if they ever make a new SRW OG anime.

But yeah sadly the seiyuu not being here anymore is a more and more common occurrence when it comes to pre 2000 anime. Liking old anime is a good death reminder lol. Speaking of which, tons of people in the world wrongly think that "Muslims don't fear death". That's racism spread by politicians and media to feed ideas like "see that's why they're all terrorists and love blowing themselves up".)

Next, TomaP talked about how this is the first time Big O appears since SRW Z3 Tengoku-hen in 2015. He was surprised himself when he checked the date and saw it's been that long ago. Dorothy will join as an Assist Crew character. Roger will also have an unique Pilot Skill, but he didn't detail what it is. (It must be his Negotiator Pilot Skill. However, seeing he specifically brought this up, I assume it means the effects were changed from Z3, where it reduced the Morale of attacked enemy units and negated post-stage repair costs).

Next, TomaP explained this is the first time Fuuto Pi appears in SRW. The three playable units will be Kamen Rider W, Kamen Rider Accel, and Kamen Rider Skull. He also noted how seeing Kamen Rider W and Kamen Rider Skull together should strike a chord, so fans of the series should look forward to the DLC's story and how this is possible.

I'm not familiar with any Kamen Rider series after Kamen Rider Decade due to lack of time. For those before, I watched a few eps here and then, would be nice if I can watch them fully one day. I only really watched 555 and Decade. I want to watch more Tokusatsu as a whole too. It's one big part of Japanese culture that's barely discussed in English. I hope the Kamen Rider Zeztz worldwide release on YouTube every week will be super popular, and especially I really hope the series will actually be good. Imagine if it got super popular and makes Kamen Rider mainstream worldwide, but the series sucks lol. If this turns into the Strive of Kamen Rider it'll be an awful situation.

It's the first time in 14 years Kotetsu Jeeg appears in a console SRW. TomaP said its additional parts appear in its battle animations, and his strongest attack will feature Jeeg Pantheroid.

This is the first time Getter Noir appears in a console SRW, after appearing in SRW Cross Omega and SRW DD. For this occasion, Dynamic Pro decided on a new subtitle: The Jet-Black Drifters. They also produced a unique theme song for it that you'll get to hear in the DLC. TomaP also revealed that Getter Noir will initially only have Ryoma as its pilot, however midway through the DLC's story, it will upgrade to Getter Noir G and get Hayato and Musashi as pilots.

This is the first time Da-Garn ever appears in Super Robot Wars. TomaP explained the playable unit will be Da-Garn X, who can transform into Great Da-Garn GX when it has enough Morale. The anime's protagonist Seiji will appear in some of the battle animations, and will join as an Assist Crew character.

MatusmotoP said he didn't expect Da-Garn to show up now in SRW Y, so the Gattsukitaika duo were like "??? Don't you guys consult each other" LOL. ToumaP explained the producers obviously know and discuss their projects between themselves, but don't necessarily know in advance when each other's games and updates will release, so it's a coincidence that Baan Gaan in DD and Da-Garn in Y ended up being revealed on the same stream.

Once he was done going over each series, TomaP shared some comments on the DLCs as a whole. He explained that the DLCs each have their own subtitle to stress out that they have their own story, and even their own unique bosses. He compared it to having two small SRW games within the game. Once the DLCs have been released, players who bought them can play them as soon as possible by selecting the DLC stages with the Tactical Select Mission system, or wait till clearing the main story.

Next, TomaP announced that "some of the DLCs series will not have BGMs". He asked for our understanding in this matter and said specific details would be announced via the official site after the stream.

The official's site Q&A was updated after the stream, and it turns out Braiger doesn't have a BGM. That's what producer Toma meant. (I wonder what happened, maybe licensing the OP or part of the OST is a lot of trouble and money, and Bamco deemed it wasn't worth it, since people can bring in their own BGMs on PC and PS5. It's not possible on Switch though.)

Last but not least, TomaP said the development for the DLCs is still ongoing, and the release date for DLC 1 will be announced soon. (You can already buy the DLCs set though, to get the SRW X and SRW T OG units).

During this segment, ToumaP's voice was getting really rusty to the point it got a bit hard to understand his words. He apologized for it and kept drinking water, saying he did rehearse a ton, but the real thing makes him stressed as hell. You can tell he's not used to being in front of a camera yet. Back on the May 20 stream with him and OochiP, he admitted that he asked OochiP to MC the stream with him as he wasn't confident he could do it alone. OochiP is much more experienced as a producer and appeared on the series' live stream with Gattsukitaika and ex-producer Terada for years.

After that, they detailed the Twitter campaigns for SRW Y. They also mentioned a Twitter countdown to release, with comments from the seiyuu voicing the OG characters and a chance to win their autograph.

They also announced a TV commercial for SRW Y. I believe it's noteworthy because if a Japanese game company is paying for a TV commercial it means they're trying to take the game's PR seriously and put some real money in there. For example, when Falcom releases their yearly single game in late September, they usually only do WEB CMs. They don't pay for TV spots.

The CM is narrated by Forte and Cross' seiyuu Yamane Aya and Fukagawa Kazumasa. It's the same footage as the English Launch Trailer.

That was it for the SRW Y segment. The last part of the stream as usual focused on toys announcements and updates.

Toys news and updates

Most notably they talked about the Shokugan Modeling Project SRX box, which contains parts to build the previously released R1, R-Gun, R-2 Powered, R-3 Powered all in the same box, and they can actually be combined into the SRX. Preorders started on August 28, costs 45,450 Yen and it's planned to release in February 2026 (they got the date on the slide wrong).

They had a sample on set too, was pretty cool. But yeah like I mentioned during my restream, in the past, Terada (who is working on tons of toys especially OG robots' toys since he's one of their original designers) would be there talking about the toys and posing them and sharing some memories etc. Even these toys PR segment used to be much more entertaining before.

That's all for this stream. Thanks for reading. Also remember to follow journalists like Molly Shah to retweet and share with your acquaintances fundraisings for Palestinians. There's a Japanese one too to share with JP acquaintances.
