thank God the sora no kiseki the 1st fr translation isn't trash

(i use localization and translation interchangeably it's the same thing)

i wonder how the spanish and german translations are.

afaik it's the first time gungho is localizing a falcom game. huuuuge script, and there was the case of the grandia remaster german's script translating "miss" to galaxy "fräulein" yuna. so i was definitely worried. nice thing everything went fine.

sen 3's french translation was sadly terrible. you can tell the translators did their best but just didn't have the time and resources and synchronizing. names and terms would change translations from one sentence to another.

for sora remake too you can tell that there probably are multiple translators and they weren't fully 100% coordinated, but it's infinitely better than sen 3.

i was really sad that calvard arc didn't get french localizations seeing the setting is inspired by france, and it is a pretty good depiction, with racists dumbasses. but im really happy this remake got one. and a good one.

personally i don't like it when translations try to "elevate" the text. putting poetry where there wasn't. putting jokes where there wasn't, etc. i feel like a lot of usajins love this and a lot of usajin translators love this too, while french translators don't do it as much. most mainstream and recent example you probably heard of is the ff7r translation. the french text is much closer to the original script than the english one.

so im happy the french translation of sora remake doesn't do that either. and it doesn't have post 2020 cool kid talk like "dinguerie" and "c'est banger masterclass poulet" like some french anime translations do nowadays. i don't mind this much but it can be really weird sometimes. it's super weird seeing people mr satan use the same slang as some post 2020 french teenager in dragon ball sparking zero for example.

there are a few things im not a fan of, like how nouns like "bracers" got translated into "égide". "craft " is "technique". arts is still arts.

it's ironic because i hate how japanese series are so into using english and german words for worldbuilding, though i don't mind since i'm used to it. and i hate how both in france and japan people are so into usajin culture. and in europe in general up till the early 2010s we almost never had the choice and only had english dubs, and sometimes only english text too. you had technical and storage limitations leading up to that too. you pretty much couldn't be a rpg gamer if you didn't speak english. im really happy things changed nowadays and we always have the original dubs included. Insha Allah i'll be able to play all of the game with my family.

if you want to check the french version of sora no kiseki the first i recommend watching bejito my favorite french streamer, who is also the most knowledgeable person about the series in france.

remember to check the bluesky pages of journalists like molly shah and reshare the Palestinian fundraisings there. don't listen to the racists saying it's useless.
